Zofia was born in Poland and during World War II was sent to Siberia, then to Austria, followed by immigration to Canada in 1951. Zofia is predeceased by her husband, Boleslaw and son, Thadeus (Ted). Zofia is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Ballantyne of Mississauga. Zofia will be missed by the whole Polish Community; she was especially active in the Polish Federation of Women, of which she was a founding member, and later president. She was instrumental in puffing on many cultural events, such as musical and literary evenings, arts and craft displays, translation services, supported Vancouver Council of Women, the Citizen’s Council, the Folk Society, the Kopernik Foundation, also worked for the Polish Congress, as vice chair. In 2008, Zofia was honored with the Golden Cross of Merit by the late Polish President, Lech Kaczynski. The presentation ceremony took place at the Polish Consulate in Vancouver. She made her way through her later years with determination. She died in her home as was her wish. Funeral service will be held on Aug 13 with prayers at 10:30am, followed by Requiem Mass at 11:00am.
