Our mother was born in China at the end of World War I in 1928. She was the only daughter in her family. Before meeting our father, Chi Cheung Lee, she didn’t date any men. They fell in love at first sight, and after two years of dating, they got married in 1948. They left Guangzhou in 1949 and began their new life in Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong, she gave birth to six children, and she loved each of us. She taught us the importance of family values and how to treat others in a fair manner, and that it was very important not to hurt others. She has set many good examples for us - one of them was not to be a racist, not to judge others by skin colour, nor where they came from.

I remembered the time when I asked her if I could marry my wife. Her answer was, “If you like it, I like it and please accept our blessings!”

She always reminded us to give seats to the elderly. either on the buses or trains.

I respected my mother so much because she never complained about others. In 1979, she emigrated to Vancouver, and she continued to take care of our father and all of us. Our mother always donated money to beggars when she saw them on the streets. She loved all her grandchildren, and when they were children, she liked playing with them and frequently bought them toys.

After our father’s passing in 1999, our mother was very upset because she loved our father very much. She was a very devoted wife to our father.

In 2015, she asked us to send her to a nursing home because she didn’t want us to spend time taking care of her.

At Madison Care Center, she was respected by all the nurses looking after her. She wanted me to thank Alfredo, Manydas, Christine and Joy for helping her! She stayed in the Madison Care Centre for over 8 years before her passing on Jan 29, 2024. She also appreciated and thanked everyone in Madison for taking care of her, or else she would not have lived this long!

Ed quoted this message to his mother as below:

Our dearest mother, if I can be reborn again, I want you to be our mother again! You will always be missed !
