Wo-Hip died peacefully in his sleep at home in Vancouver, Aug 17, 2024.
He is predeceased by his wife, Jane Ma. He will be greatly missed by his sons (Fred and Rod), daughter in law (Grace), grandchildren (Sam and JJ) and sister (Peggy).
Born in Baisha, Toishan, China in 1930 during the Japanese occupation. As a result, his education was delayed. Despite this, he excelled in school and graduated with an engineering degree from Tsinghua University, Beijing. He worked for a number of engineering firms in Hong Kong and Vancouver.
He and Jane had a love for travel which began with their wedding in Edinburgh, Scotland and continued throughout their life together. He also enjoyed duck hunting and fishing and in later years immersed himself in Sudoku.
He was known by his friends and family for being a kind and gentle soul. He was legendary for cradling his crying infant grandchildren for hours until they finally fell asleep. He cared for Jane throughout her struggle with Alzheimer’s until her passing.
His love for family was equaled only by his love for the game of Mah Jong. The highlight of his week this past year was his Friday Mah Jong game. He left this world on a winning streak the day before his passing.
