FREDERICK AUSTIN McLEAN B.A., Th.M.
Was born August 4, 1916 in New Haven, Connecticut, the fifth child of Frederick and Katherine McLean.
From an early age he was conscious of God’s call in his life, was a life-long student of God’s Word and a tireless worker in His church. He attended St. Thomas, St. Bernard’s and New Orleans Theological Seminaries and was a Catholic Priest for 24 years. He was Pastor and Principal/Teacher in Manchester, Bridgeport, Stanford (Conn.), Charleston (S. Carolina), Calgary, and 9 years as Principal of the School at Mitchner Centre, Red Deer (Alberta).
Fred was a founder of Family Life Groups, traveled to collect money for missions, did counseling and vocational guidance and was Chaplain for Civil Air Patrol and Air Cadets in Charleston.
Fred married Veronica Ross in 1967, came to Canada - 1968 and became a Canadian Citizen - 1973. He highly valued family life and delighted in their son Christopher and later Chris and Lynore’s daughters Anna and Sarah, his granddaughters.
Fred enjoyed teaching, astronomy, baseball, golf, biking, travelling, words - reading the dictionary, landscaping and gardening. He had a private pilot’s license. Music was a great part of his life and he was an excellent drummer. Throughout the years he played drums in: a 15 piece jazz band, College Symphony, Fife and Drum Corps, Red Deer Civic Symphony, Legion Pipe Band, and taught rudimental drumming at Vernon Music Conservatory.
He was welcomed in to the presence of His Saviour, to his Forever Home with Jesus.
