It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, William “Bill” Lewicky.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Leanne (Jukka), Denise (Kerry), and Sharlene, grandchildren Dylan, Kaley, and Courtney, sisters Rose and Joanne and their families who held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by Margaret, his endearing wife of 66 years.
Born in Spedden, Alberta, Bill grew up on a small farm with his parents and 4 siblings. He graduated from the University of Alberta in Civil Engineering. He married Margaret in 1954, and after a few years, settled in North Vancouver in a house designed and built by Bill, where they raised their three daughters and lived the past 60 years.
Bill had a long successful career in Structural Engineering. He was passionate about his work and continued working until he was in his late eighties. As much as he loved his work, he loved his family more and was proud of each of their accomplishments.
For his 88th birthday he was given an iPad: he created and shared biographies for every member of his family including his parents and siblings. He sent out a daily email with updates on everyone’s activities and a selfie to show family members he was doing well. He truly valued these family relationships and made them a priority.
He had a positive outlook, easy-going manner, a sharp intellect, and a quick wit. He was always there to lend a helping hand, drive the grandchildren to their activities, and never missed a concert or dance recital. He lived his life with a twinkle in his eye, humorous stories and jokes, and a ready song or poem to recite. He enjoyed life to the fullest with daily phone calls, family visits, catching up on the news and stock market, reading, and spending time on his sundeck.
Dad, we love you, we miss you and you will remain in our hearts forever. You were truly one of a kind!
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday July 19, 2022, at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Church 1360 East 24th Street North Vancouver.
