Vivian Spangehl passed peacefully surrounded by her family on June 4, 2024 at Melville Hospice in White Rock. She died of ovarian cancer, which she fought with strength, courage and grace.
Vivian Marie Spangehl (nee Barker) was born on May 21, 1961 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Vivian received her B.A and B.Ed from the University of Saskatchewan and worked for several years as a special education teacher before focusing on raising her three children.
Vivian dedicated her life to her family, creating a home filled with love, laughter and warmth. She was an incredible cook and host. She was generous with her talents and time, volunteering with the soup kitchen, chaperoning kids sports teams and school trips, and billeting many students and athletes. Vivian had a unique way of making those around her feel loved, appreciated, and valued. She was naturally athletic, playing basketball, tennis, and softball throughout her life.
Vivian is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 40 years, Werner, and her three children Tori (Eric), Madeline (Maxim), and Peter (Adria). Vivian also leaves behind two grandchildren August and Emily, as well as her father Kip, and three siblings Jean Paul, Tim and Mike. She was predeceased by her mother Rita.
A Memorial Mass and Celebration of her Life reception will be held at Good Shepherd Church, 2250 150th Street. Surrey, BC, on July 06, 2024, at 10:30 AM. All are welcome.
Vivian will be laid to rest at the Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery in South Surrey.
