Vivian, or as she preferred to be known, Vee-Vee, was born in Vancouver in 1924. In 1948 she graduated from UBC with a degree from the Faculty of Arts and Science and shortly after went to work in the BC Provincial medical labs. She remained there for 35 years in increasing positions of responsibility as a microbiologist, virologist, senior scientist and lab supervisor. In her personal life, Vee-Vee loved driving, travelling, was an opera fan and spent a great deal of time visiting and caring for friends and relatives who needed assistance for transport, shopping or just companionship. Vee-Vee is the last of her generation in the Verrall family, but will be missed by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and their sons and daughters down four generations. Although physically healthy, in the last two years Vee-Vee was afflicted with Alzheimer’s which sapped her previously “1st Class, A-1, Ipsy-Pipsy” indomitable spirit and much of her unquenchable humour. Her family is grateful for the excellent care and services provided for Vivian at Laurel Place. Funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 2027 West 7th Ave in Vancouver at 10:30 AM on Thursday August 1st. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
