At 9:20 a.m., Monday, January 4, 2010, Vivian slipped peacefully into her sleep, at last free of the painful ravages of an unrelenting cancer that she faced with characteristic good grace.
Mourning her death but measuring her life is a blending host of family and friends. Foremost is her immediate family : son Paul, wife Deborah, and their sons Jonathan and Andrew, of West Vancouver, and son Daniel, wife Carolyn and daughter Samara, and daughter Marina both of Santa Barbara, California. Next is elder sister Lorraine Warsh with whom there was almost daily and very special contact. Lorraine’s daughter Cathy Meadows and her children (David, Corinne, Michelle, Raja, and Becky), all of California, have always been close to Vivian. Michael Warsh, Lorraine’s son, his wife Kaui , and their son Sam miss Vivian very much.
On the Emmott side, beloved and deeply loving husband, Alan, feels a great void without her. Married on December 19, 1993, Vivian lost no time, with full rein, in applying her magic touch to turning a house into a home " and garden as well, creating a botanic beauty. Oldest son Vaughn with wife Dorothy, teachers for many years in Costa Rica, were our guests along with their sons Rhys and Gareth, thus bringing all the Emmotts together " Alan, Jr., Graeme, and Graeme’s daughters, Leah and Kristina. Vivian enjoyed the expanded company. Graeme and Vivian shared a special relationship. Leah and Kristina always looked upon Vivian as “Grandma”, benefiting from her care and attention throughout their schooling and graduation from Simon Fraser University. Vivian adored them.
A celebration of Vivian’s life will be held at the Alan Emmott Centre, 6650 Southoaks Cres., Burnaby, on Jan. 16, 2010, commencing at 1 pm. The family kindly requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to either the Burnaby General Hospital Palliative Care Ward (2D), 3935 Kincaid Street, Burnaby, BC, V5G 2X6 or to the Kahpoo Daycare Centre at Simon Fraser University (where Vivian spent her happiest work days), c/o Simon Fraser University, SFU Childcare Society, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC, V5A 1S6.
A final note " a quote from the Bard with a slight gender correction:
Now cracks a noble heart. Good- night, sweet princess;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
