It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Thomas ("Tom") Wellington Leslie on June 2, 2023. Thomas was born in Edmonton, Alberta on November 14, 1941, where he lived as a child and young adult. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta (BA) and then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where he received his teaching degree (BEd) at the University of British Columbia. He then met the love of his life (who soon became his wife), Lasse Leslie at Cecil Green Park House. Thomas and Lasse were married on March 25,1978 at the Danish Lutheran Church in Burnaby, BC and enjoyed 45 years of marriage together.
Thomas was incredibly bright. He loved to learn about the world and all it had to offer. He loved history and watching classic movies. He also loved to travel and had many fond memories of trips with his wife, many also including his daughter, to England, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Algeria, California, Hawaii and Mexico, as well as many other places.
Tom was a devoted husband, father and "papa" to his wife, daughter and two grandsons. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to tease and be playful with his family. His incredible memory came in handy to remember all sorts of quotes and song lyrics, which he could proudly recall whenever the opportunity arose.
Tom had an incredible presence. He was 6'5'' tall with a broad stature. This served him well in playing football, basketball, tennis and a number of other sports in his youth. Behind his formidable size was a loving man who was completely devoted to his family and friends. He had great charisma and loved to spend time speaking with others on a variety of topics.
While Thomas suffered health issues in the later part of his life, he beat so many odds and was given many years that were never promised. In this time, he got to see his daughter graduate law school, get married, and most importantly he got to meet his grandchildren and watch them grow into the incredible people they are becoming.
Thomas is survived and greatly missed by his wife Lasse, his daughter Kate (and her husband Paul), his grandsons Owen and Calvin, his sister Joan, and his nieces and nephews. His legacy also lives on through the countless people in his life that he positively impacted.
A private celebration of life was held in his honour by his immediate family. No public funeral will be held, in accordance with his wishes.
Always loved, lovingly remembered.
