Sybil Alice Elizabeth Thompson
1913-2012
Sybil Alice Elizabeth Thompson was born on 24 May 1913 at Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada to Charles Wycliffe Thompson and Gwendoline Alice Isabel Hanson. She passed away to be in the arms of the Lord on August 30, 2012 at Fellburn Care Centre.
She lived from 1913 to 1930 at Vernon, British Columbia, Canada; and grew up on a fruit ranch in the BX (Barnard's Express) District.
She was home schooled between 1918 and 1922 at Vernon. She attended St. Michael's elementary school, Vernon and graduated from St, Joseph's High School, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She graduated in 1933 from Montessori Training College.
Between 1934 and 1936 she taught at Norfolk House Girl's Academy, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In 1937, she was in charge of Junior boys at Kingsley's Boy School, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. From 1954 and 1968 she taught at St. Francis de Sales, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. From 1968 and 1980 she taught at Immaculate Conception, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
It was at Kingsley's Boy School she met William Peter Byrne, son of Patrick Joseph Byrne and Catherine Georgina Reilly, and later married William on 16 Nov 1940 at St. Andrew's Church, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They honeymooned at Niagara Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Peter Byrne in 1958, her mother Gwendoline Alice, her father Charles Thompson, and a sister Phyliss Nesbitt. She is survived by a daughter Maureen Alice of New Westminster British Columbia, a daughter Sheilah Anne and her husband Neil Hanson of California, and beloved grandson Gregory Tristan Peter Hanson of California.
