It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished husband and father, Stephen Platt.

Born in Scotland, Steve spent his ‘wildhood’ in the picturesque town of Dumfries, attended Strathclyde University in Glasgow and eventually moved to London, England. In the early 90’s Steve met his future wife, Ann Marie. By 1994 they had married and were living in her hometown of Vancouver. Steve immediately fell in love with the landscape and lifestyle of BC.

The combination of Steve’s strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit lead to the creation of Smart-tek Communications, along with partner, Perry Law. Their business and partnership has flourished over 25 years.

Steve had a warm and engaging personality. His bright smile and quick wit put others at ease and endeared him to many. He was able to converse on any subject, his favourite being sports. A loyal Arsenal Football Club supporter Steve had an uncanny ability for remembering scores and statistics from decades past.

Above all, Steve epitomized the family man. He was happiest spending time with his 3 children, whether on the slopes of Whistler, on annual road trips or cheering from the sidelines of many fields, rinks and courts.

Predeceased by his parents John and June Platt, he leaves behind his wife and best friend of 30 years, Ann Marie (Latimer), his children Meghan, Gavin and Liam, brother Michael, brothers in law, Rob Latimer (Coral) and John Latimer (Karen), nieces Rebecca, Ally, Alexandra, Olivia, Eloise and nephew Johnathan as well as parents in law Tom and Agnes Latimer.

Steve took pleasure in the simpler things and was grateful each and every day for the life he had. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of BC Cancer whose care and compassion turned a hospital room into a home for Steve during his final weeks.

In lieu of flowers and to honour Steve’s memory, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation.
