Stephen died peacefully on January 4, 2017 in Vancouver at age 65.

He was predeceased by his parents, Barbara Conde and Jonathan (Jack) Heming Hopkins. Steve will be lovingly remembered by wife, Shirley Chan; son, Heming (Kristin); daughter, Emma; and grandchildren, Avery and Van. He will be missed by in-laws, Fran and Joe Montgomery; Dr. Larry Chan (Suelina) and Nellie Chan (Bill Pickering). Steve will also be missed by his many friends including the Maya archaeological dig teams at La Milpa, Belize where he spent several summers living his dream.

Under the direction of Dr. Fred Valdez, U. of Texas, Austin, Steve contributed to the knowledge of how the Maya designed their cities. Steve was an accomplished pianist who was an accompanist for ballet dancers, singers and other musicians. He also played in several bands professionally and for pleasure. Steve was self-employed as a computer consultant, Home Computer Solutions, until his retirement in 2011.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:  The Kidney Foundation, North Shore Schizophrenia Society or Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden. A scholarship for minority women students studying archaeology full-time at U. of Texas, Austin will be established in his name.

Steve specified “no service” but sends his love and affection to family and friends.
