Sorida El Feghali (born Khoury) died peacefully on March 07, 2020 after a long struggle with illness. Born in Beirut Lebanon on July 07, 1947 to Michel Khoury and Mathilde Cortbaoui. Sorida is part of a family of 6. She was number five in the rank. Siblings by order: 1- Nabih and his wife Antoinette Cortbaoui and their children 2- Late Wagih and his late wife Olga Trad and their children 3- Amale and her late husband Samir Shwayri and their children 4- Sylvie and her late husband Suheil Najjar and their son 6- Salim and his wife Robin Bewley and their children She is survived by her husband Abdo El Feghali of 32 years. Sorida had a happy childhood at home. She was joyful person. Perseverance was her second name! She always tackled any task given to her with seriousness and love. Sorida attended a nun elementary school “les soeurs de la charite”. She attended “secondary high school” to finish her classic education. She then went on to obtain her degree in “physical education” from the “physical education institute”. In 1968-69 she started her career as physical education teacher which she embraced with love and dedication. She was loved by her students as she introduced so many new teaching technics. She also provided coaching for students who wanted to participate in public events (Olympic goals or community sports events). Aside from her sports involvements, Sorida taught folkloric dancing classes (Greek dance, American (square dance), polish and many more). She had many opportunities to participate with her team in many events. Just to mention a few, American university of Beirut, Ste. famille colleges and many more. She taught at many schools, private and public. Many of her students kept in touch with her over the years until she died last week. They were calling several times a week to check on her. Many of them are teachers in Canada today. She endured the civil war in Beirut from 1975 to 1990. After 15 years she decided to immigrate to Canada with her husband Abdo. She landed in Montreal where most of her family resided. Two years later she moved to B.C. She loved B.C. and was always inviting her family to move to B.C. as well. Sorida was an active member with the Focolare movement in Lebanon, Montreal and B.C. for over 30 years.
