Simon Peter Yao passed away in Vancouver, BC, on October 14, 2022, a few days shy of his 69th birthday. He joins his sister, Prisca, and parents, Che Sun and Lee Chung Yao. He is survived by his sister Mary; brothers-in-law, Henry Quan and Henry Lee; nieces and nephews, Jane (Stefan), James (Jenn), Adam, Elizabeth (Brad); grandnephew Alexander; grandniece Quinn.

Simon lived independently and travelled throughout North America as a young man. He stayed with his parents on occasion. They provided safety and security and accepted him unconditionally. He often spoke of his love for Alaska. In his later years, he enjoyed going to Hastings Racecourse. He enjoyed a good cup of A&W coffee, watching music videos on Youtube, and lunch at White Spot. Simon's straight-shooting conversational style and deadpan humor will be greatly missed.

Resilient, resourceful, and stubborn, Simon remained firm in his decisions regarding his health, believing that God would take care and heal him. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to BC Schizophrenia Society, BC Cancer Agency or charity of choice. Thank you to the staff of Willow Pavilion 2 and many others along Simon's life journey.

Graveside Catholic burial to take place 2:30pm October 28th, 2022 at Capilano View Cemetery in West Vancouver.
