Sidney William Kemp passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2023, at the age of 63.
Sidney is predeceased by his Mother, Norma, and Father, David. He is survived by his brother, Andrew Kemp, his sister-in-law, Anna Freschi, his nephews, Jake and Thomas, and his niece, Natalie.
Sidney graduated from University Hill Secondary School, and he went on to UBC where he got his B Comm. Sidney then completed his Master of Science in Commerce, which he completed concurrently with his Bachelor of Law. Sidney enjoyed his schooling and the friends he made throughout his years at UBC. He was the president of UBC HamSoc (the UBC amateur radio society), having been an active amateur ham radio operator from the age of 13. He was responsible for acquiring the UBC Ham-soc extensive corporate sponsorship, as well as the equipment allowing them to become part of the provincial and federal disaster and emergency management network.
Sidney’s career started with practicing law in corporate securities, later transitioning into roles as Corporate Council, and then into Insurance Claims. In recent years, Sid created and ran Rhombic Consulting Group, Inc.
Sid was an active member and supporter of the 29th St. Helen’s Scouts from Cubs to Venturers, traveling and hiking throughout Canada and BC with a close-knit troop. His interest and enjoyment in the outdoors continued throughout his life.
Sid rarely took the easy path in life, and yet he was always ready to help those around him. Sid will be missed by those closest to him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vancouver SPCA.
