O’Neill, Shirley Aiyien (nee Koo) affectionately known as “Sunoo” by her family ended her 20 year Parkinson journey on March 19, 2013. Born in Bombay India on March 24, 1947, Shirley immigrated to Vancouver in 1971, following the completion of a BCom degree from the National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan. Shirley travelled the world during her single days when she worked in the Accounting Dept for CP Air. Shirley’s strong faith in God allowed her to bear her Parkinson cross with patience, grace and dignity. She managed to find joy and pleasure in simple things like knitting, sewing and reading. The sparkle in her eye, her mischievous smile and dry sense of humour made her a joy to be with. She remained true to her beliefs to the end and set the bar very high for those of us that knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents Wan Zee and Millicent Koo, Mourning her loss is her loving husband Michael, her sisters Jean Leo and Sandra Wu (Donald) of Richmond, and brother Ken Koo (Diana) of Port Coquitlam, brother-in-law Dick O’Neill (Joy) of Gananoque, ON and sister-in-law Theresa Davies of Kingston ON as well as many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Thanks to all the community home care workers in Richmond and Vancouver over the years, and to the doctors, nurses and care aides at VGH, Ward 7A/B, Centennial Pavilion, who loved and cared for Shirley during the last months of her life.
