Sharlene passed away at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver on February 29, 2020. She was born on May 14, 1951 at Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, beloved daughter of Carol (née Krienke) Hertz of Ottawa and Garvin Hertz of Regina.  Sharlene is survived by her husband Keith Reynolds, her son Matt Reynolds, his wife Jillian and son Harrison, her daughter Alexa and her partner Daniel Johnston, her brother Blaine Hertz and his wife Debbie and her in-laws Tom and Bev Reynolds. Remembered by her nieces and nephews, cousins and her Aunts. Sharlene was a force of nature committed to justice. In her early career she worked for a member of Parliament helping constituents with their problems. It was there she learned her life motto, “if you don’t a.s.k. you don’t g.e.t.” She went on to earn credentials in Teaching English as a Second Language and a Masters in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier. In Vancouver, she became a successful fund raiser for UBC, but far more important she considered her work for the Coast Foundation building supports for people with mental illnesses. In 2007 she was offered her dream position as VP for fund raising with an international aid organization in Ottawa. Leukemia ended that opportunity. She was given six months to live, not something she would tolerate. Instead she lived another 13 years to thrill her family and friends. Even her grandson, Harrison Reynolds, arrived six weeks early so he could spend more time with grandma.  In Ottawa and later in North Vancouver, she was a sparkplug building community. She loved her children ferociously and believed a parent’s job was making memories. With special thanks to Dorothy Janzen, Kevin Song, Philippe Riviere and the BC Ambulance Service. In lieu of flowers please buy a bottle of champagne and drink it with people you love on Sharlene’s birthday (May 14). If you can, send us a picture of it at Remembering.Sharlene@gmail.com. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday March 12 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 1700 Mountain Highway, North Vancouver.
