Husband, Father, Grandfather, CEO of LaPrairie Group of Companies
It is with profound sadness that we announce Scott LaPrairie passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. We are deeply grateful that Scott was able to spend his final time at home surrounded by his family.
Scott is lovingly remembered by his spouse, Andrea; his children Clifford (Cathryn), Callum (Caro), Kyle, Andre (Robin), Alexander, and Fleur; and his grandchildren, Saoirse, Tiernan, Theodore, Bastien, Frazetta, Ryan, and Wilhem. He is survived by his mother, Colleen Clarke; his siblings, Clarke (Patricia), Roachelle (Kelly), Pierre (Wayne), Anastasia (Andre), Reagan (Vicky), Shannon (Marty) and Octavia (Patrick); and a very large extended family.
In Scott’s youth, he was known for his daredevil dirtbike and racecar antics. Scott always enjoyed spending time with family and friends—whether skiing in Whistler during the winter months or boating on Lake Okanagan in the summer. He was in the process of building his dream compound on the lake, large enough to accommodate his many children and grandchildren where he planned to host many family gatherings for years to come.
A true trail blazer, entrepreneur and leader, Scott dedicated 43 years of his life to building LaPrairie Group of Companies from the ground up. In 1982, he founded LaPrairie Crane in Tumbler Ridge, BC, on FlatBed Creek with a single crane and the help of his best friend and brother-in-law, Wayne McBrearty. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering belief in his vision, Scott led the company’s growth into a dynamic group of eight operating companies, employing over 800 people from the northernmost regions of Canada to the southernmost points of North America, and even internationally to the Philippines.
Scott was immensely proud that LaPrairie Group remained 100% Canadian owned and operated, a testament to his deep commitment to his country and community. He was also a stickler for brand recognition, and in particular, was passionate about the LaPrairie Orange color. Many battles were fought and usually won over the exact tint. To him, the vibrant orange symbolized strength, energy, and innovation—principles that defined both the company and his approach to business. Under his leadership, the color became instantly recognizable as LaPrairie Orange. synonymous with excellence, boldness, and the LaPrairie spirit.
His passion for LaPrairie was always centered around its people. He believed that the company’s success was a direct reflection of the dedication and hard work of each and every employee. Scott’s leadership style was just as comfortable in the boardroom as it was in the field. However, when asked, he would humbly tell you he was just a "wheels and grease” guy with a sparkle in his eye.
More than just a business leader, Scott was a cherished husband, father and grandfather who took immense pride in his growing family. Scott will be forever missed and never forgotten.
