It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sashi Lata Sen on May 1, 2023. Born in Nasouri, Fiji, on January 5, 1952, she immigrated to Canada in January of 1980. She was a devoted single mother who faced many challenges in life, but her resilience, strength, and kindness always shone through. She leaves behind her only daughter, Marina Ashika Sen, and her son-in-law, Thomas Partridge.

Despite having very little help or support, she raised her daughter with unwavering love and dedication. She was a kind, loving, generous, and beautiful person who always did her best to help others (especially if it meant helping someone get a good deal).

Sashi had a beautiful voice and loved music, regularly sharing her talent with the Indian community through local radio stations. She also found joy in her volunteer work at Eastside Family Place, where she volunteered for almost 15 years and cultivated meaningful, long-lasting relationships with the staff. Her favourite day of the week was Tuesday. Not only was it the day she volunteered, but it was also the day she would partake in her recreational therapy with her weekly bowling group. Her playful competitive side would always come out during these sessions, and she would often joyfully tell her daughter that she "won the game" that day.

Sashi will be remembered for her iconic red lips, vibrant style, heavenly singing voice, and unconditional love and support for her daughter, Marina.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the East Side Family Place Society (https://eastsidefamilyplace.org/donate/) in her name.

It is important to note that Sashi had expressed her wishes for no funeral service or witness cremation. We will respect her wishes and her memory by honouring her in our own personal ways, reflecting on the impact she had on our lives and the love she gave to us.
