Ruth passed away peacefully in her 92nd year. She is survived by her daughters Dr. Katherine Baranyi (Geza) and Patricia Gartland (Steve), her grandchildren Julia (Rob), Andrew, and Matthew, and her sister Pat Babineau. She is predeceased by her husband John, her daughter Leslie (Ph D McGill), her five siblings, her mother and her father. Ruth was born in Swift Current and grew up in Dunblane, Saskatchewan. She maintained lifelong friendships with her nursing sisters from her time as an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and her training at Regina General Hospital. Ruth earned a B.N. from McGill University in Montreal and received a fellowship. She was asked to remain at McGill in the Faculty of Nursing, but preferred to marry John, a Civil Engineer and Royal Canadian Navy officer, and to start a family. John and Ruth built their first home in Montreal. From there they moved to Toronto, Regina, and Edmonton before settling permanently in Coquitlam, BC when John founded Cypress Equipment Company. Ruth was known for her brilliant mind, her wit and humour. She was devoted to her daughters and her husband and to their careers. She had a passion for gardening and was given an award by the City of Coquitlam. Ruth loved people and had a special ability to see their unique gifts and inspire them to fulfill their potential. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday September 22, at Fraser Cemetery, 100 Richmond Street, New Westminster. The family wishes to thank her dear friends the Tinkess family and Virginia Rodriguez as well as Dr. Brian Monks and the Gartland family for their support. We wish also to thank the firefighters, paramedics, and Eagle Ridge Hospital for their capable help.
