It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mom, Roxine Rose Radiuk (Rostek), in her 88th year, peacefully at home, on July 25, 2022. Her love and generosity will be missed by her 3 children, Peter, Paulette (Jason), and Carla. Also, she will be fondly remembered by her 5 grandchildren, Jordan, Jessica, Jason (Taylor), Samantha and Matthew. Roxine is survived by her sister Caroline, predeceased by her husband Peter and her brother Carl.
Roxine was born in Rockglen, SK, where grew up on the family farm, and it is here she learned her love for animals, especially her horse, which she enjoyed riding to school. After high school, she attended teacher’s college to pursue a career in education. Soon Roxine married Peter and started a family. In 1971, Peter and Roxine moved their family to Vancouver to care for her father and brother.
Roxine became an active member of her St. John the Apostle parish, volunteering for many years as a catechism teacher, then after retiring from the Vancouver CIBC Visa Center, she volunteered at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She always led the celebration of holidays and family birthdays by preparing amazing meals in her beautiful home – she generously shared her great culinary skills and wealth of recipes with anyone who asked. Roxine, as the matriarch, was the glue that bonded the family together, and we were blessed to be called to her table.
Roxie, as many friends fondly called her, knew her door was always open for a visit. One could count on an interesting, lively, and honest conversation with Roxie about anything; politics, sports, current events, stock market, gardening, quilting, or whatever else was on your mind. She had a special way of making you feel better if you were down and encouraged you to think positive. In fact, when Roxine invited you for a walk in her neighborhood, you had to be prepared to stop several times for her to say hello to everyone or provide some wise advice – Roxine’s heart was so big she would help anyone.
We all enjoyed her unique wit and perspective on things, she loved to laugh and make jokes. The world was lucky to have such a genuine, beautiful, and loving person. Roxine will be eternally missed by her loving family and many friends. We will love you forever, Mom!
