It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald 'Smokey' Douglas Johansen on November 22, 2016, at the age of 68, after battling complications associated with and following a double lung transplant.
Survived by his loving wife, Donna; his brother, Larry (Wendy); his children, Chris, Darren, and Tricia; his grandchildren, Gregory, Brennan, Dmitri, Chelsea, Bryce, Markus, Joshua, Jordannah, Theodore, Emily and Madison; as well many cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends; especially Larry and Deb, Ted and Gloria, Bob and Donna.
Ron was born September 28, 1948 in Vancouver, British Columbia to parents Thorbjorn (Ted) and Florence (Berneice) Johansen. The family moved to Campbell River in 1960 where Ron started working as a heavy equipment operator in the logging industry straight out of high school until his retirement. After running out of projects he put on a Napa hat and delivered parts which let him run into old work buddies.
Ron's hobbies included golfing, fishing, square dancing, and photography. He loved to travel, visiting some 'bucket list' locations including Pearl Harbor, The Alamo, Nashville, and a coast to coast trip out east, all before moving to Kelowna with Donna in 2013.
He was a loving family man who made any friend a member of the family, always willing to lend a hand and help anyone he cherished.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can me made to the Westbank United Church at 3672 Brown Rd, West Kelowna, BC V4T 1P7, or the BC Lung Association, PO Box 34009 Stn D, Vancouver, BC V6J 4M2.
