Roderick (Rod) Filer died peacefully in his sleep at Marion Hospice in Vancouver on September 23rd, 2010 at the age of 79, following a courageous battle with cancer. Rod was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 22nd, 1931 to parents Earle and Grace Filer. He spent his formative years in Vancouver and, as a young adult, moved to England where he lived variously in London and southern Kent for over 30 years including, notably, in a house formerly owned by Noel Coward.

From the mid-80’s onward he migrated back and forth between England and Canada. During the latter half of the ‘80s he lived in Victoria and Vancouver. He returned to the UK, living in Cerne Abbas in Dorset  with wife Susan during the 1990s. In 2001 he returned to Vancouver and bought the Pacific Sun Company tanning salons.

Rod enjoyed life immensely and leaves behind a long list of grieving family members. In Canada, he is survived by his sister Mary, first wife Diana, son Roderick and grandchildren Isabel  and Daniella. In the UK he is survived by second wife Roberta, son James Filer and grandsons Benjamin and Jack; by his third wife Jane Paston Court and stepdaughters Kate and Nicola;  and by his fourth wife Susan Filer and her children James, Anthony (Tosh), Alison and their children.

Rod is sadly missed by his many friends and family on both sides of the Atlantic. A private ceremony will be held for family and friends in Vancouver and a mass will be said for Rod on October 12th in the UK.
