It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved father on October 6, 2024 in Vancouver, at the age of 79 years.

Richard will be deeply missed by his daughters Maggie and Sarah (Michael), granddaughters Hannah and Violet, and his dear Mitsuko.

Born in Vancouver in 1945, Richard was an adventurer – after graduating from the University of British Columbia, he moved to Ottawa, then London (UK), settling in Toronto to embark on a lauded career as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), eventually becoming Chairman of its National Banking Group. He raised two daughters during his time in Toronto, relocating to Moscow when they reached adulthood, to become Managing Partner of PwC’s Russian practice.  He retired to Vancouver and was recognized among friends and family for his warm and inviting gatherings and dinner parties.

One of his greatest joys was bringing together the people he loved for delightful evenings of storytelling, learning and laughter.  Richard was known and admired for his intelligence, curiosity, wit, and lifelong friendships.  He loved good humour, wine, travel, food, golf, music, art and company. We are grateful for everything he shared and will carry it forward with us.

A celebration of life will be held in December at his home in Vancouver.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider a donation in his name to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca) or to the Vancouver Recital Society (www.vanrecital.com).
