Passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the age of 80 in Vancouver, BC. The son of the late Frederick M.  Herring and Constance Herring Harrison, Mr. Herring was a graduate of the University of Michigan, School of Forestry, saw combat service in the United States Marine Corps and in the Black Watch in Korea, and was a long-time resident of Vancouver and Alaska. His career as a logger, prospector, forester and consultant spanned the tropics to the Arctic. As a forester, he introduced aerial photography to timber resource evaluation. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, Mr. Herring championed the conservation of wildlife and the preservation of the arts and traditions of the First Residents. He was also an accomplished bagpiper. Other interests included military history, food, wine and whisky, which he pursued on his extensive travels. He is survived by a brother, Bruce M. Herring of Newtown, Connecticut, USA.

A  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 2 at 10:30 AM at Guardian Angels Parish, 1161 Broughton Street, Vancouver. There will be a prayer service at the church on Tuesday, May 1 at 7:00 PM.  Reception at the Seaforth Armoury, 1650 Burrard Street, Vancouver on May 2 from 12:30-3:30pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Northwest Wildlife Preservation Society at www.northwestwildlife.com.
