CAMPANELLA, Richard Gerald “Campy”

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on July 10, 2019 in Vancouver at age 83.  He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia.  Cherished father to David (Diane), Michael (Melinda), and Rick (Sarah). Fondly remembered by his nine grandchildren; Luke, Sophie, Lilah, Noah, Siobhan, Thea, Blake, Avery and April.  Campy will be missed by his sister Joan Pizzietello, brother Edward Campanella and many nieces, nephews, great niece and nephews and friends.

Campy was an avid traveler.  He and Pat visited several countries in six continents.  He was passionate for jazz music and attended many festivals with Pat at his side.

Earning his PhD at UC Berkeley, he was a Professor in Civil Engineering at UBC for over 30 years.  He was a renowned geotechnical engineer and retired as an Emeritus Professor. He was an active community member in the Catholic church, Cub Scouts and Knights of Columbus.

Campy’s biggest legacy is his family, uniting them through many celebrations and vacations together.

He will be sorely missed by many but never forgotten. Prayer Vigil will be held on Tuesday, July 16th at 7:00 p.m., Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 3778 W. 28th Avenue, Vancouver.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 17th at 11:00 a.m.
