Greg Fowler passed away peacefully on March 22 after a long illness.
Greg was born in Pasadena, California before moving to Vancouver with his two loving Canadian parents. He and his parents and younger sister Vicki settled into their home on Cedarhurst drive in Vancouver where Greg ultimately attended McGee Secondary School before going on to UBC.
Greg is grieved by his loving wife Betty, and his kids Brenda and Andrew along with two grandsons James and Maxwell, his sister Vicki and numerous other family members and friends.
Greg met and married Betty in Duncan BC and soon after they moved to the West Kootenays and settling in Montrose. He initially worked for Cominco before switching to a role in the payroll department at West Kootenay Power and Light Company - Greg ascended in the company and eventually grew to the Manager for Human Resources - he retired in 1995.
Throughout his life Greg was a very active in the Canadian military, a cadet in his youth up to being heavily involved with the Canadian military reserves, he was honoured to serve as Commanding Officer of the 44th Field Squadron Engineers, Dad was always very proud of his time with the militia and the number of young men and woman that he was able to mentor and lead over his many years there.
During his years in Trail, he was always busy in the community, from his work with Rotary Club to volunteering as an auxiliary RCMP out of the Trail detachment. He was an avid hockey fan who had Trail Smoke Eater tickets for many years, both in the Sr and Jr teams. He played fastball with the Montrose team and enjoyed golf at Birchbark, and camping around the Kootenays.
After his retirement he and Betty relocated to the lower mainland to be closer to their new grandchildren, he was the very best grandpa that you could imagine.
In retirement Greg went on to work many hours with the BC Commissionaires in White Rock and Surrey where he served with distinction and class.
Dad was an amazing grandpa and loving husband and an unparalleled father, he touched many lives with his humour, constant positive encouragement, honesty and an excess of kindness.
