It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard James Dowling on July 1, 2014. Richard was born in Glasgow, Scotland on October 6, 1928. He lived his early life between Scotland and Ireland until he ventured to New Zealand, followed by the love of his life Joan Campbell Dowling, where they were married. They then set out to explore North America and landed in Vancouver, BC in 1957. Richard started his career in the steel fabrication industry at George Third & Son and made it his lifelong profession until he retired with them in 1996. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling, his family, grandchildren and spending time in Texas with his daughter and her husband. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile and spontaneous singing and dancing. Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan, his daughter, Joan (Jim *please insert cross indicating he has passed away*), son Mark (Davinder) and his grandchildren, Shandly and Aidan. He also will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends around the world. The Dowling family would like to thank LGH and doctors and staff of North Shore Hospice where even in his last days he would entertain them with a good ole Irish song.
