Richard, son of Alf and Muriel Basford, was born on December 14, 1943 in Rock Ferry, Cheshire, England, and came to Canada in 1957.

Growing up in Edmonton, he loved skiing and football and was the first of the extended family to attend university.  He attained a BSc. in Chemistry, a reputation for partying, and later an MBA from the University of Alberta.  He and his wife Susan lived in Toronto early in Rich’s career in travel marketing, they moved to Vancouver in 1974 and separated in 1975.

Rich met Wendy while teaching at BCIT, they married in 1978 and son Richard was born in 1984.  Richard started several businesses, first Marktrend then Consumerscan and Integra, where Wendy worked with him until her death in 2006.

Sheila and Rich met in Edmonton and in 2014 they married in Jasper, a favorite place for them both.  They were so very happy with each other, living in both Vancouver and Edmonton and going back and forth with the ebb and flow of the seasons, the business and their families and friends.

Richard loved many things, he lived life large and with gusto, had a very quick wit, a great sense of humour, and some strong opinions on many topics. He loved to travel, loved his work in marketing and research, loved Vancouver, Puerto Vallarta, London and anywhere in Italy, along with good cars, good food, good wine, gourmet cooking, his many friends around the world and most of all his family.

Rich died of a sudden heart attack on March 10, 2018. Son Richard, wife Sheila, sister Gill and their families will miss him deeply.

He was loving and affectionate, the people he loved knew it always.
