As a young lady of sixteen years she traveled from Rock Creek to New Westminster, B.C. to attend high school at St. Ann's Academy and then on to career college to study book keeping. Her first job was at St. Mary's Hospital in New Westminster in the clerical department. It was at this time she met a dashing young man, Patrick Fitzgerald Power whom she subsequently married.
While raising 17 children and keeping the books for our father's lumber business, she was also a very active member of the CWL and lifelong volunteer. For many years kept the books and did the banking for her parish of St. Frances de Sales. Along the way she mended many bruised knees, nurtured many of her children's dreams and provided a model of stability, perseverance, and unending commitment to her family and Catholic faith.
