Ray John Raverty, 92, of Maryborough Queensland, Australia, son of Jack and Ellen Mary (Tansey) Raverty, passed away peacefully March 6, 2014 at The Salvation Army Rotary Hospice House, Richmond BC, after a steadfast battle with cancer. 'Joe' was predeceased by his younger sister, Sister Giuseppe, and is survived by Aline (LeSann), beloved wife of 57 years. Their four children, Stephen, Lisa, Christine (Steve) and Bernie & Lorie (Reynolds) lovingly hold him in their hearts, as do his grand-daughters, Danielle and Megan. Joe was defined by his love of family and his devotion to his Catholic faith, the Knights of Columbus, and the Pro-Life movement. He contributed generously to the education, health and quality of life of those less fortunate. Joe was an adventurer who travelled the world far and wide. He had an affinity for fine art, cars and fish & chips at the seaside in Hervey Bay, Queensland. Joe uplifted others with his delicious sense of Irish humour and flair for storytelling. He inspired others with his goodness and positive heart. Joe was a pillar of strength. Mass will be celebrated by Father Anthony Boniface at St. Monica's Roman Catholic Church, Richmond, BC on March 13, 2014 at 9:00 am, with reception to follow. The Raverty Family thanks The Salvation Army Rotary Hospice House Team for their love and dedication to Joe's care in his final days. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Pro Life.
