It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather Pietro Aiello on August 30, 2019 at the age of 89, just one week shy of his 90th Birthday.

Our hearts are aching and despite knowing this day would come, nothing has prepared us for this huge void in our lives.  After facing Parkinson’s disease with bravery and courage, our father passed away peacefully with family at his side at St. Paul’s hospital in Vancouver.

His most profound gift was winning everyone’s heart.  He was an honest, hardworking, caring, good man who had a huge heart.  He touched many lives with his generosity.

Pietro was born in Amato, Italy on September 8, 1929. He immigrated to Canada and landed in Halifax, N.S. on April 7, 1952, followed by his wife and son a year later.  He was employed with CP Rail on June 30, 1952 in Vancouver and he also worked at Brookmere for two months in 1960 and North Bend in 1961, returning to Vancouver late in 1961.  Pietro had never been off sick in all his time with CP Rail and retired as Car Inspector in October 1989.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Antonietta, parents Maria and Antonio, his brothers Luigi, Natalino, Giuseppe and Francesco.  He will be dearly missed by his children Tony (Joan), Mary (Carlo), Rosa, Danny (Denise) and Pina.  His 10 grandchildren, Dennis, Michael, Lisa (Frank), Adamo, Niona (Fabio), Peter, Celina, Hannah, Shaun and Michelle;  his 6 great grandchildren, Giancarlo, Santino, Taylor,  Niccolo, Giuliano and Gabriella; his brother Antonio (Maria); sister Maria (Salvatore); sister-in-laws  Victoria; Carmelina and many nieces and nephews.

Prayer Services will be held on Sunday September 8th at 7:00 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday September 9th at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish with Father Eugenio celebrant.  Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society.
