Vancouver, BC - Peter Matossian passed away peacefully at home on May 16th, 2021 with his family by his side. Lovingly survived by his beloved wife, Haigo; son Dr. Sebouh Matossian (Becky) and three grandchildren; daughter Mariam Setian (Haro) and three grandchildren; daughter Sarah Matossian; as well as his brothers, sisters and many cherished cousins, relatives and friends in Canada, the US, Cyprus and England.
Peter was born in Nicosia, Cyprus and settled in Vancouver with his new bride in 1968. He began his career in real estate soon after establishing himself as a respected, highly capable, and extremely wise businessman. A man of high integrity, Peter was trusted and loved by clients and fellow agents who became lifelong friends. Fluent in Armenian, Greek and English, Peter loved serving clients in the Lower Mainland including the Armenian and Greek communities. Countless people would come to Peter for financial advice over the years, and Peter patiently and graciously counselled and walked with them all through some of the most difficult decisions of their lives.
A devoted husband and father, Peter loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family, staying active in the later years of his life by gardening, reading, exercising, walking at the beach, and attending church. He was extremely sharp and had a wonderful sense of humor. He continued to attend the weekly sales meetings at his former office Macdonald Realty well after his retirement encouraging and mentoring other agents. Peter, a son of survivors of the Armenian Genocide, loved his Armenian heritage and regularly attended St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church and Armenian community events with his family as well.
Undoubtedly, the most important part of Peter’s life was his faith in Jesus Christ. From a young age, Peter sought the advice of pastors in Cyprus, studied God’s Word, and prayed. Little did he know that Father God was writing His Word on Peter’s heart from a young age, drawing the young boy to Himself. Once in Canada, he and Haigo would walk to a local church and then later, when they moved to the Dunbar area, attended Dunbar Heights Baptist Church for the rest of their lives. Every night, Peter would be on his knees praying before he went to bed and every morning, he would study the Bible before his day began, even keeping a small Bible in his car’s glove compartment to read before heading into work. As a boy, teenager and then, an adult, he was always looked up to as a man of high moral character: honest, generous, trustworthy and wise. Peter attributed all of these qualities to the work of the Holy Spirit in his life.
Peter loved the Lord. He would regularly testify to the amazing work of the Father in his life, extending from when he was a little boy until his very last days. In fact, up until the very last moment of his life, he continued to give thanks to Father God for the many blessings and gifts in his life, namely his faith and his family.
And now, with full assurance, we testify that Peter Matossian is Home with the Lord. Peter will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, and we rejoice that one day we will be reunited in Heaven with our beloved husband, dad and grandfather, a man after God’s own heart. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
