Peter, who was predeceased by his loving wife Mary, passed peacefully in his home in Vancouver on Friday, November 26th, 2010 in his 86th year. Born in Toronto, ON and raised in Montreal, Peter went to school at St. Leo's Academy and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a B. Commerce degree. Peter served as a pilot in the RCAF prior to graduating from university. In 1949, Peter was a founding shareholder and Director of Graymont Limited, a family owned business that is still operating. The business, over the years, was involved with a variety of endeavors and has concentrated on lime industry for the past twenty years. Peter touched the hearts of most people whom he met whether it was in the horse racing industry, in the sports industry, travelling with his wife and family or enjoying time at his vacation home in Naramata, B.C. on the shores of Okanagan Lake. There are also fond memories of his winter times in Banff, Alberta and the log cabin on Mt. Seymour. As an active member of the community, Peter was an Alderman for the City of Vancouver 1966-68, a Cub Scout leader, long term member of the Vancouver Club, a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and a Knight of Malta. He was also involved with the Variety Club, the United Way and numerous other charities. While it is difficult to capture and portray a life as active and full as Peter's, it is safe to say that Peter truly lived life to the fullest. Working hard, having fun and instilled that love of life in those who knew him. He was affectionately called Mr. G by the younger generation. His brothers Ronald, John, David and Arthur and his sisters Mary, Margie and Ki, predeceased him. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Philip and Bill, his sisters Ann, Sheila, Jane, Helen and close to 50 nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his sons, Peter and Jeffrey, his daughter Deborah and her husband Jim Blakeney, his grandchildren Tia, Kyle, Hailey, Graham, Stephanie, Jalyn, Cole, Trevor and Laura and his great grandchildren Riley, Sophia, Rio and Cayla. Prayers will be offered on Thursday, December 2 at 7:00 pm from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1430 West 38th Street, Vancouver where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 3 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to either the BC Cancer Society or the Variety Club.
