With deep sadness we announce that our dear Dad passed away peacefully at 98 years of age. He is now together in heaven with our Mom June, who predeceased him in 2018 after almost 72 years of marriage.
He is survived by his devoted daughter & caregiver, Melanie, son Patrick, granddaughters Melissa, Alanna & Shawn, great-grandchildren Kacey, Kadence, Faith, Landon & Wyatt & siblings Betty, Doug & Patricia.
Dad was the eldest of 7 children. As a young lad, he and his family came to Canada from England where they eventually settled and grew up in Montreal, QC. He was a World War II veteran and served overseas with the Black Watch from 1939 to 1945. Dad and Mom’s families were neighbours growing up and after the war, following a romantic courtship, they married in 1946.
After marrying, they lived in Montreal & Sherbrooke, where Patrick was born and years later, they moved to Vancouver where Melanie was born. They enjoyed a wonderful life together with a wealth of long-time, treasured family friends, family vacations, travel, a vibrant social life and as active parishioners at Immaculate Conception. Dad enjoyed a successful career as an Executive in the Mining Industry, was a member of the CIM and Engineers Club. Dad loved golfing and was often on the green at Quilchena, his golf club, especially in retirement. He was a fabulous dancer and is no doubt “cutting a rug” with Mom in heaven now!
Dad will always be remembered as a man of great integrity, a true gentleman and a very kind, loving and generous soul. Family was of utmost importance to him and he was an exceptional son, brother, husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather.
A special thank you to the caring staff of Youville Residence for the care provided in his last days. A Funeral Mass followed by reception will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Parish at 11:00am
Dad, your legacy is the kindness, caring and love which touched us all and the soulful twinkle in your beautiful blue eyes. Love always, until we meet again.
