Peter passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Melville Hospice in White Rock, BC.
Peter was born in Brantford, Ontario where at the completion of Grade 13 he joined the RCAF. There, he met his beloved wife of 64 years, Frances, who was a nursing sister with the RCAF. After their service, Peter and Frances ended up in Vancouver where Peter graduated from UBC. He began his career at North American Life and later developed his own insurance agency. Upon leaving the RCAF, he transferred to the reserve army and retired as a Major in 1975.
Peter had an enduring interest in restoring antique motorcycles and cars. When British Motorcycles Ltd. came up for sale, he was quick to purchase the business. Over the next few years, Peter and Frances began curating motorcycle tours of England. This morphed into an interest in travel and after the sale of the insurance agency they purchased a travel agency. Frances and Peter toured the world together reveling in sharing new experiences with each other. Peter had many hobbies: English history, bridge, Scotch, antique cars and, of course, motorcycles. He was a member of the Probus Club, the Korean War Veterans Association, Vincent Motorcycle Club, and the pre-56 MG Club.
His sons survive him: Paul (Janice), Bruce (Siobhan), John (Christine), and honourary son, Ian Wylie. Peter had five grandchildren: Samuel, Catherine, Patrick, John and Alex and two great-grandchildren: Cormick and Ada.
He will be remembered for his ability to bring people with common interests together and nurture the friendships that emerged.
The family would like to thank Donna McKinley, Dr. Joji and the entire Fraser Health community for their commitment to Peter’s welfare.
A funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Church 2250 150 St. Surrey at 11:00 AM on 26 September. A gathering in memoriam will be held at the Cloverdale Legion at a later date.
