It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Peng Jiang, survived by his two brothers, wife, and daughter.

Peng was born in China, the eldest of three brothers. There he obtained both a degree in Network Communication and a Masters in Computer Science. After meeting his wife at work, they would go on to live in Japan for several years, and finally immigrated to Canada where he provided the best opportunities he possibly could for his family.

Peng was deeply intelligent and tenacious. If he wanted to achieve something, Peng would accomplish it and then some. In 1997, he landed in Vancouver with a very pregnant wife and minimal English speaking ability. He travelled as far as Halifax to find a suitable job, but thankfully found work in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, working as a Senior Tech Consultant at Telus ever since. He was a well-respected team member, always pushing himself to produce the best results and enjoying the work ‘as a bonus’. He also maintained CCIE certification, one of the most prestigious certifications testing infrastructure network design skills, for twenty years.

Peng was a very private man, but his wife described him as a ‘thermos’. Durable and seemingly cold on the outside, but capable of incredible warmth. This was seen through the way he could coax any plant back to life under his gentle yet methodical care, and his booming laugh and jokes made during work team calls. He was also an avid appreciator of art and culture, enjoying classical music and calligraphy.

In his last month, Peng was diagnosed with cancer. Still, he was so determined to live as long as he could, following his regimen of medications to a tee. One of Peng’s last joyous moments was laughing at the head-sized peonies that were blooming in his garden. His daughter was lucky enough to capture this moment and share it with you here on this page.

We would like to thank all the healthcare professionals involved in Peng’s care. We are particularly grateful to his family doctor and oncologist, who did everything in their power to support the entire family until the very end.
