Paul Robert Evans was born on July 20th, 1985, in Toronto, Ontario. He spent his early childhood in Ontario, with stints in parts of Asia, Hawaii, and Boston.

Paul moved to British Columbia ahead of grade 9 and spent the rest of his life on the West coast. He made lifelong friends in high school and during his undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia.

Paul had a deep desire for knowledge, was always reading and learning, whether about history, politics, or baseball, he kept his mind active and loved an intellectual challenge.

That’s why he went to Law School at the University of Victoria. He didn’t know immediately what type of law he wanted to practice but felt the most curious and challenged by criminal law. He began his practice and within a few years he teamed up with another lawyer, Phil Cote, to form Cote & Evans Trial Lawyers.

Paul joked that the law sustained him… which is only partially a joke. He was passionate about his work and expanded into several different fields of law. His practice was truly thriving and so was he.

Paul died on October 14th at Vancouver General Hospital at the age of 36. He had a genetic condition, Vascular Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. His vessels and connective tissue were prone to dissections and ruptures. His hepatic artery ruptured. A team of specialists worked incredibly hard through three emergency surgeries, and Paul fought very hard, but his vessels were too fragile.

Paul is survived by his wife Megan, his parents Catherine and Paul and his brother William Evans and his in-laws Barbara and Brian Smyth. Paul is also remembered by countless family, friends and colleagues.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 21st, 2021, at the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre at the University of British Columbia from 1-4pm. Some tributes will begin at 1:45pm.
Proof of full vaccination, ID and mask required.
