Paul Chia-Chen Teng was born in Dongguan, Guangdong province, China. He passed away peacefully in Mount St. Joseph’s Hospital in Vancouver BC on January 30th, 2020. He was 92 years old.

An accomplished radio broadcaster, his efforts on the Chinese Radio Broadcast as the voice of United Nations Command in Taiwan and Okinawa helped to bridge the Eastern and Western worlds through tangible communication, facing forward to reach people through their shared humanitarian ideals. Upon immigration to Canada, the skills of the radio trade gave him ample insights as an electronics technician, and with it, he developed his keen eye for mechanical details that landed him a long career in the audio-visual department at Langara College.

Good-humoured, high-spirited and strong-willed, Paul supported the interests of his family by cultivating skills in a variety of fields, and passed his love of language, culture, and fine cuisine down to his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as Gong-Gong to his grandchildren, he spared no effort or expense in supplementing their upbringing within traditional Chinese customs, including a warm introduction to overseas family. His long life was dedicated to creating and fostering long-standing connections across land, sea and generations.

He was predeceased by their eldest child, their son Roy. He is survived by his wife, Inez I-Gin Teng, their children Sharon (her husband Paul), and Ellen. He leaves behind much beloved grandchildren Jeremy (his wife Christine), Justin, Julianne, Jacob and great-grandson Luka.
