Our beloved son and brother Patrick died suddenly in Montreal on 15 September.
He is survived by his parents, Edna and John, his brother Ian (Sarah), and his nephew Eduardo.

Patrick was a scholar, author, athlete, and teacher. He spent his early days in Burnaby, except for a glorious year with his family in England when he was 12, during which he participated in raising the school pig, and was a starting forward on the basketball team. He played soccer for Cliff Avenue United FC, and before he contracted mononucleosis and chronic fatigue syndrome at the age of 19 was a promising bicycle racer.

He graduated from Burnaby North Secondary School, attended Simon Fraser University and Laval University, and eventually earned a BSc from Regents College of the University of the State of New York. He was fluent in both English and French. He was a Cambridge-certified ESL teacher and practiced this craft in Canada, Korea, China, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Oman.

Along the way, Patrick wrote a novel and made numerous editorial contributions to alternative newspapers. He flirted briefly with far out causes like the 9/11 Truth Movement, but never lost his steadfast passion for social justice. We will greatly miss his ready humour, sense of adventure, and delight in intellectual argument.
