Norman passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Sunday, June 4. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Johanne; daughters, Sara (Duane Hepditch) and their children Ben and Julia; Heather (Doug Sage) and their children Connor, Annie and Lucy; brothers, Gus (Gail), and Larry (Dale); sister, Linda Radcliffe (Michael); brother-in-law, David Square (Penny); and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.
Born January 4, 1944 in Winnipeg, the fourth son of a family of five children, Norm survived Trinity College School and went on to graduate with a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
He joined Canadian Pacific Airlines in 1967 in Vancouver where he worked until establishing Eagle Flight Catering. His career opened the world to the prairie boy and there were few places he hadn't travelled, venturing into China and Vietnam before most tourists. He served as chairman of the board of York House School and on the board of Shaughnessy Golf Club.
After he left the airline business, he turned to another passion: golf. He pursued the elusive game at Desert Mountain in Arizona, Vancouver and Bathurst. For five summers, he was actively involved with the Air Canada Golf Championship.
Norm couldn’t resist the chance to pat a dog, tell a good story or tease a young person and he especially adored his five grandchildren.
His father and mother, Searle and Frances and his brother Gil predecease him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 2465 Crown Street. In memory of Norm’s big personality, color is the new black.
