Cowley, Norma Elizabeth

Norma passed away peacefully at Langley Memorial Hospital on April 16, 2019. Predeceased by husband John Henry Cowley, brother Philip Sloane (Pat), sister Pat Sloane (Al Dugas). Lovingly remembered and missed by: son George and daughter- in-law Patricia, son Glen and daughter-in-law Karen, son Bruce (Tawny), son Paul (Robin). Lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews: Anne Greer (Robert), Sandy Girvan, Dan Dugas (Agnes), Bob Dugas (Barbara), Gerry Dugas (Danora). Grandchildren: Jonathan, Cataya, Shalome, Brieshea, Shawn, Tamara, Quinn and Stephen. Great Grandchildren: Liam, Henry, Tao, Julia, Kieran, Skylar,Emily, Nolan. Born in Winnipeg Manitoba, Norma later moved to British Columbia at the age of three. She served as an armed forces communications operator during the second world war. Norma was militarily posted to Toronto, Ontario, where she met and married John (Jack)Cowley and took up residence in east end Toronto. Norma missed the West Coast and longed to see the mountains and the ocean again and eventually moved back to British Columbia in the mid 1970's with husband/our father John. Norma survived the Great Depression and a bout with polio at a young age and went on to live a full and vibrant life. Norma participated in many of the functions at the Cloverdale Legion. She entertained audiences while performing and singing with The Vaudevillians and Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed line dancing and was seen performing in the Cloverdale Rodeo Parades and line danced in a scene from the film Harmony Cats. Norma also enjoyed her time spent with Susie Francis & the Versatiles, performing on stage both at the Cloverdale Legion and other venues. Norma was also a movie Actress and began her career beginning with a bit part in the movies The Black Stallion, Leaving Normal, Snow Falling on Cedars and I'll be Home for Christmas (partially filmed in Fort Langley) and managed to obtain a stunt woman's position in the process. She went on to appear as an extra in Davinci's Inquest, The X Files and The Outer Limits to name a few. As well she appeared on commercials and had appeared in the movie Good Luck Chuck (1998) and more recently the British Columbia Nurses Union TV advertisements. Norma will be sorely missed by all who knew her. In keeping with our Mother's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 27th, 2019 at the following from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm: Cloverdale Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 6, 17567 57 Avenue, Surrey, B.C. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated in memory of Norma.
