We are sad to announce the passing of Nellie Lawson.

Nellie passed Dec.10, 2021 at 2 a.m. quietly and at peace, from natural causes while residing at George Derby Centre in Burnaby. Nellie was not alone. Her son Robert was as close as conditions allowed leading up to and during her decline.

Nellie was born in Vancouver, the youngest of her siblings to Ethel and Alfred (both deceased). She was also predeceased by her siblings Alf, Bella, Marge, and Joe. Nellie’s husband, Walt predeceased her as well as three of her sons, Donald, Kenneth, and Jeffrey. Nellie is survived by her remaining son Robert, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Also, she will be missed by many close friends and workmates.

Nellie worked for B.C. Tel as an operator in the late ‘50’s and early ‘60’s, first in Vancouver and then later in her senior years, she was a well-liked and respected volunteer at George Derby Centre gift shop. She enjoyed serving ice cream, coffee, etc. to the veterans for many years.

She is missed by her grandchildren Leanne, Jenelle, Christopher, Kensito, Brad, Kim and Becca and her Great-grandchildren, Kailey, Ryan and Jake.

Special thanks to friends and workmates, Mary, Rose-Anne and others. Her sisterhood comprised of Joan (deceased), Kathy and Pat Evon. These sisters of “The Sisterhood” are deeply appreciated for bringing fun, laughter and adventure into her life and thank you Lil for being a devout, loving friend for a lifetime. Your auntie Nell’s nieces and nephews were often in her thoughts. They are Lorene & Ron Krushinski, Dennis, Marie, Doug (deceased) & Susie McGrath, Mike and Jimmie (deceased), McGrath, Bonnie, Laurie and Susan Cook, Donna, Darlene, Barb and Walley Lawson.
