Skinner -- Neila Lillian (nee McKelvie) was born in Victoria B.C. on May 6, 1936. She passed away on Friday July 3 at UBC Hospital after a short illness. Neila was predeceased by her husband Donald Ernest Skinner. She is survived by her daughter Coleen Skinner, Coleen’s partner Clint Popp, and her children, Samantha Barry and Bryce Ethier; as well as her son David Skinner and his partner Jennefer Laidley.

Neila graduated from Kitsilano high school in 1954 and went on to enjoy a long career with the Vancouver School Board. For many years teaching was her passion, and she plyed the profession as a kindergarten, elementary, and district resource teacher. Along the way, she forged many lifelong friendships that were key sources of laughter, inspiration, and comfort throughout her life.

Outside of the field of education, Neila starred in several theatrical performances at the Metro Theatre, and, at various times, enjoyed sky diving and water skiing. Friends and family were always top of Neila’s mind and dinner parties and evenings by the pool were regular life highlights for many years. Travel, cats, and Christmas helped fuel her joie de vivre, and her collections of cat figurines and Christmas decorations will keep her children and grandchildren in felines and festive spirit for many years to come.

If so inspired, she would appreciate donations to the SPCA.
