Nancy died peacefully in her sleep early Tuesday morning following a long illness.  We are saddened by the loss of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. The daughter of Genevieve (O’Neill) and George Sydney Grant, she was predeceased by husband Charles Bennett (2004), and sisters and brothers Helen Lang, Bill, George, John, Robert, Gwen Tate, Alan, and Charles (in infancy).  Nancy is survived by daughters Allison Elizabeth (Margaret McKenty), Catherine Louise (Joseph Webster), Jennifer Jane Bettiol (Dennis), Gillian Mary (Mark Walters) and Margot Ellen (Bhreandain Clugston), grandchildren Michael and Jane Ready-Webster, David and Michael Bettiol, Megan and Kate Ready-Walters, and Alexandra and Claire Clugston Ready, sister Phyllis Grant Lavelle, sisters-in-law Peggy and Barbara, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed by many dear friends including Grace Mackay and Pat Sadler.  In her youth, Nancy attended Branksome Hall, served as a volunteer counsellor at Bolten Camp, and enjoyed summers at Big Bay Point on Lake Simcoe, horseback riding, swimming, and skating at the Granite Club.  She moved from Toronto to Vancouver with her family in 1948, attended Fenton’s secretarial college and worked for a time at Royal Trust.  She and Chuck married in 1952, and she was a support to her family during frequent moves for his banking career (Vancouver Island, Montreal, Thunder Bay, London, Toronto) over the next 30 years, settling back in Vancouver in 1985.  Nancy had a superb sense of humour, was keenly interested in news and current events, and was excellent company.  She enjoyed an evening of bridge, poker or Scrabble, and long conversations (often on the phone) with the many friends she made across the country.  She volunteered at the Pacific Spirit Community Health baby immunization clinic.  Combining her love for babies and clothes, she had a successful retail career in children’s clothing stores in Toronto and Kerrisdale after her children were grown.  A loyal Canucks fan, she also enjoyed a good novel or biography, knitting and needlepoint (her daughters and grandchildren all cherish beautiful cushions made for each of us), and visits to Trout Lake.  Mom cared most about family, and would do anything for her daughters.  She lived at Crofton Manor from 2011-2013 where she appreciated recreational programs and new friends, especially Ann Richards.  Our family is grateful for the excellent nursing care Mom received at Blenheim Lodge in 2014, as well as care provided by Bayshore Health Care (special thanks to Alycia Perreault).  A huge thank-you to Robyn Wills, companion, friend and helper, who helped keep laughter in Mom’s life.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association would be appreciated.
