It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Mona Lee Kimbrough Daniels, at the age of 60, after a battle with cancer with her loving husband, Tim by her side on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Mona was born January 2, 1963 in Lake Charles, LA to parents Jessie and Margareta Kimbrough. Mona graduated North Pulaski High school in Central Arkansas in 1981, attended college at Lyons college Batesville and graduated University of Arkansas Little Rock in 1986, majoring in Radio TV Film and with a Double Minor in Art and Theatre. She performed in plays and musicals in college and a traveling children's show for Arkansas PBS. She worked as a Door girl and bouncer at DMZ club (now Vino's) in Little Rock and took part in art shows from Vancouver to NYC, also in Sacramento & Little Rock.
She worked many jobs in retail, but the most fulfilling was as a Librarian's Assistant at Central Arkansas Library System as a Children's programmer, creating Storytime activities for the community. Her personal and professional accomplishments included classes she took at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, earning a teaching certificate in basic arts and advocating for The West Memphis Three.
Mona and Tim met in 1991, and shortly thereafter she gave him the pet name The Deal. They were married on Oct. 31, 1995 with a Halloween-themed reception, and celebrated each anniversary in costume. They moved to Vancouver in 2005 and gained Permanent Residency in 2006.
Mona will be remembered as a creative, funny, and intense person who loved all cats, liked most dogs, and enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds she called her patio critters.
If you sent her a card or a letter she more than likely kept it, as she had a sentimental core.
She was a girl who loved David Bowie and The Cure, making and fixing things, and goofing around online.
She thanks all of her friends and family for being there during this time, even though all were long distance.
Predeceased by her parents, Jessie and Margareta Kimbrough, Mona will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend, Tim LaGrone Daniels, her sister Karla Tucker of Tennessee, and her children, Jason Vanderbilt and Sonja Tucker Jones; also by her sister Madeline Kimbrough. Mona will be dearly missed by other family members and many friends.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the BC Cancer Agency, and Vancouver Hospice Society for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mona’s memory to VOKRA - Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue at www.vokra.ca. Giving to charity Kiva lending was her favorite and she encourages all of her friends and family to memorialize her by opening a lending account and help crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved. Through Kiva she funded women and men all over the world receive loans for home improvement, agriculture, the arts, and retail growth.
