Miguel passed away suddenly January 13, 2013. He was predeceased by first wife Rosalina. Survived by his loving wife, Traudi, daughter Guida, son Michael, stepchildren Monica and Robert and grandchildren. Miguel was born in Parede de Coura, Portugal. His father took him out of school too soon, to work on the family farm and soon the young athletic Miguel realized it was not for him. He joined Portugal's Benefica Cycling Club. Soon he became their top athlete, winning many purses, cycling in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Brazil, and even Tour de France. He retired from the sport in his 30's and started working on the oil tankers starting out from Rotterdam, N.L. This way he got to see the world, even stopping twice in Vancouver before he ever immigrated to Canada. What a beautiful city it was. First he came to Montreal and then to Vancouver. He was working on the Peace River and Mica Dam sites. He believed Canada was a great country and had much to offer through hard work. He always regretted he did not have the education he should have had, because he did really possess a keen and sharp mind. He always stressed to his grandchildren to make sure to get a good education and they love their Avo and will hopefully listen to him. Miguel was proud to still be able to drive and passed his Drivable test just three weeks ago. He enjoyed meeting his friends on the Commercial Drive coffee circuit. We thank the Burnaby Fire Fighters and Paramedics, and the Royal Columbian Emergency Doctors who attended him. Thank you to his family, Dr. Kevin Tong, and family friend Marino. Miguel will be laid to rest at Ocean View Cemetery, Burnaby, B.C. in the family plot, but his wishes are no public funeral. Goodbye our dear Miguel and Avo. Please sleep peacefully.
