Michael Allan Talbot

October 1, 1943 — January 14, 2025

Vancouver

Michael (Mike) Allan Talbot passed away unexpectedly on January 14th, 2025 at the age of 81. He was born on October 1st, 1943 in St. Alban’s, England, to Edwin and Margaret (née Dewdney) Talbot. He was later joined by his younger sister, Catherine. He was a steadfast father, doting grandfather, beloved brother, and dear friend. He will be greatly missed by all.

Mike was an individual with diverse talents and interests. He grew up in England and went to school at Keele University, earning a combined Bachelor’s degree in economics and physics. He then spent time living and working in Barbados, England, and Spain before moving to Vancouver, Canada. He received two Master’s degrees—one in Operation Research from Brunel University, and another in Humanistic Psychology from Antioch College West.

Mike had a fulfilling career working in organizational development, a passion he continued to pursue throughout his life. In addition to his career, he also had a rich spiritual journey exploring Christian and Buddhist faiths. Mike cared deeply about the environment and sustainability. He took on all projects big or small with passion and intelligence.

Somewhat later in life than most, Mike became a father to his two daughters: Martha and Ruth. He was a devoted and engaged father for the remainder of his life. More recently, the birth of his first granddaughter, Clara, made him a Grandad. We are forever grateful for the time that Mike and Clara had together.

Mike was a sailor at heart. Following his retirement, he returned to the United Kingdom and spent time living and sailing in his native waters. He then returned to Canada and spent the last years of his life living aboard his boat Fancy Free. He was at home on the water, and we are happy that he spent his final years on the sea. His deep appreciation for the beauty of our natural world was, as he would say, “remarkable."

The family has organized a private Memorial in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation in his name to the Vancouver Food Bank: https://vfd.foodbank.bc.ca/fundraiser/michaeltalbot
