Comforted in his final days by family and friends, Mervyn Charles Morris,  at age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2018 - on a warm autumn day - after receiving his last rites. He was born on July 3, 1930, in Calcutta, India the youngest of 7 children. Raised in a Catholic family with strong Christian values and beliefs, Mervyn was very active in his church choir.

He immigrated to Canada in 1973 and on November 17 of the same year married Barbara Liang. Together, they settled in Vancouver and had two daughters, Michelle and Charlene. His interest in Math and Science led him into a career in paints as a mixologist at British Paints (India) and then at Flecto Coatings (Canada) until his retirement in 1995 as the Lead Hand in the production area. During this time, Mervyn was also an active member of the St Vincent de Paul society. Mervyn enjoyed reading, singing, playing snooker and billiards, and listening to jazz - his favourite singer being Frank Sinatra. He loved his family and together they spent time walking through Queen Elizabeth park, taking long drives, exploring theme parks and going on weekend shopping runs for British confectionery. Among his favourite memories, Mervyn cherished attending concerts with his daughters and spending time with close family and friends over drinks and long dinners. He loved all kinds of foods, especially desserts.

Mervyn spent the later part of his life at Lakeview Care Home. He suffered with Alzheimer’s, a neurodegenerative disease which took away his quality of life. Despite this, he fought long and hard to be present with his growing family. He was predeceased by his parents Evelyn and Charles Morris and siblings Myrtle, Violet (known as Jenny), John, Harold, Donald and Frank. Left behind to honour his memory and remember his love are: his wife of 45 years, Barbara, his daughters Michelle (Herman) and Charlene (Jason) and grandchildren Ethan and Ella.  He is also survived by his niece Yvonne (Bill), nephews Charles (Winnie) and Hedley (Teresa), grandnephews, grandnieces, great grandnephews, and a great grandniece.

The Morris family would like to extend our gratitude to the care team at Lakeview Care Home for providing a kind and loving community for Mervyn, especially during his final days. We would also like to thank Kearney Funeral Home for taking care of all the details and Father Slawomir Oblak, OMI at St Casimir’s Church who kindly accommodated us to celebrate and remember Mervyn’s life.

Mervyn will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his quick smile, infectious laugh, carefree attitude and generous heart. Rest In Peace.

There will be a viewing held October 25th at 7pm at Kearney Vancouver Chapel, 450 West 2nd Ave, Vancouver.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 26th, 2018 at 10.30am at St. Casimir’s Parish.
