Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by love and family at the age of 94. Mernel was predeceased by her cherished husband, Paul, in 2001 after 57 years of marriage. Gone before her are sisters Gladys, Anita and Mae. Mom is dearly and deeply missed by her children, daughter Joan and husband Al, son Jack and wife Sandy and daughter Susan and her late husband Alroy. Her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christine, Cheryl (Lisa), Jennifer (Jason and children Luka and Tyler Grace), Trina (Derek and children Hayden and Lainey), Erick, Jillian (Kevin and children Harlow and Alexys), Jeffrey (Jennifer and children Lauren and Evelyn), and Janna (Samer and children Sage and Baby B due in September) all mourn her loss. Mernel was born in Forestburg, Alberta and grew up in Owlseye, Alberta before returning to Forestburg where she met and, in 1944, married Paul. The family of five moved to Burnaby, BC in 1953. Mernel worked at Robinson Foods and Eatons Brentwood for many years. Her family was her pride and joy, and we all have treasured memories of wonderful times shared with her – family suppers and picnics, return visits to Alberta, stories of our family history, sleepovers, day trips, shopping adventures, endless Scrabble games at which she was a master, White Spot burgers and, on occasion, we even heard her yodel. Mom was a fantastic cook and baker and she derived great pleasure in planning and planting her garden each year. Through the years, she enjoyed writing poetry, reading and crossword puzzles – which she always did in pen. Our mom, grandma and great-grandma will never truly be gone as we all carry her in our hearts. If desired, donations to Burnaby Hospital Foundation or Kiwanis Care Centre New Westminster gratefully appreciated. No service by request.
This world is not conclusion,
A sequel stands beyond,
Invisible as music,
But positive as sound.
Love Mom
